What is Stock Monster all about.

Stock monster aims to be a useful collection of tools that are required by the day to day trader. These include, Data downloading and converting, portfolio management, Analysis and alerts and hopefully stock picking.

Over the years We've found that reliable data collection is not an easy task. There are many free sites such as Yahoo that give free data, but they don't manage it and therefore they end up with errors, BIG BAD ERRORS. We hope that we can provide good quality timely data with minimal or no errors.

Where did you get the idea from.

A trading group that i'm involved with needs data shared. I have collected a lot of information, more than just run of the mill quotes, but there's no real easy way to share such information or even to make it available easily to external programs such as Metastock, Excel or even other Databases that people might have.

Where do you get your data from.

I gather data from lots of sources. In fact i gather the same data from multiple sources or sites just to verify it's accurate. All of these are free sites and as far as i know i don't breach copyright. These may include the various exchanges, broker houses and other sites. I tend not to use Yahoo anymore due to it's inaccuracy.

What's different between this and other programs

The main difference is that i want to provide consistantly reliable historical data, not just something regurgitated. I also want to deliver it quickly and efficiently. To that end i've spent a lot of time verifying data, creating bots and routines that scoure my database for errors etc.

We also want to provide real time data when it happens. By having Stock Monster running in the background it will constantly keep your database up to date with the latest data.

Also we hope to provide more than just standard run of the mill quotes. For example we hope to provide alerts of when dividends might come out or stock splits and even some technical analysis right from within the main window.  Wouldn't it be good to get an instant alert for a fast moving stock WHEN IT HAPPENS !!!.

There are no plans for saving or displaying news at this stage.
